They had one son, Kenton, and one grandson, Sean. Maxine worked many years as a flight attendant before she got a job as a social worker in Vienna, Mo. Last week at Frene Valley we viewed the first half of the epic movie, “Gone with the Wind.” The story took us up to the return of Scarlett to their plantation, “Tara”, which had survived the war. Then in the second half they faced another enemy—white southerners in support of reconstruction governments for profit, called scalawags and carpetbaggers. Yankees from the North were also seeking gain. Scarlett decides to beat them at their own game, so she goes to Rhett Butler for help. Rhett becomes a tremendously wealthy during the war as a blockade runner. Scarlett and Rhett carry on a love/hate relationship for the rest of the movie.
Sunday afternoon the Owensville/ Rosebud Lutheran Church was here for worship services and we also enjoyed a special treat as the Community Praise Band out of Belle stopped in to sing for us.
Monday morning Pastor Jackie Asher stopped in for Bible Study and later that morning we played Rob your Neighbor. We all had a great time and everyone ended up leaving with a prize. I even saw some of the residents trading with each other. Bingo and the ice cream parlor kept everyone busy that afternoon.
Tuesday morning we gathered in the activity room for Fun & Fitness where we enjoyed playing beach volleyball after our stretching. We had planned to join back up for craft club later that morning but since the weather was so nice we decided to go out on the front patio and enjoy some lemonade instead. Manicures were a great way for the ladies to relax after lunch and the men enjoyed gathering in front of the T.V. to watch a “Little Rascals” movie marathon.
Fun & Fitness got us all movin’ and groovin’. Wednesday morning, we enjoyed playing balloon baseball and a few other favorites. Resident Council was held later that morning with no complaints (that’s always a good thing). The 4th of July meal was planned and Paul suggested baby back ribs with baked beans, potato salad, and banana cream pie for dessert. Sounds great! I just might have to come in and join everyone for lunch. After dinner MaryAnn and Pricilla joined us for Sing a Long. We had a great time singing patriotic songs.
Thursday morning after Fun & Fitness, Malinda and Herb headed out with the new calendars for the month of July. Wow! This summer is just flying by. Soon it will be time for us to head over to the Gasconade County Fair. Later Thursday afternoon we loaded up on the ToGo bus and headed over to Wal-Mart for some shopping.
Friday morning Father Secrest from the Immaculate Conception Church stopped in for Mass. Malinda also spent the morning delivering hand-dipped ice cream cones to everyone. Bingo was played later that afternoon with tons of great prizes donated from Milford and his sister, Geraldine. After dinner, residents headed out to the front parking lot to watch the fireworks.
Saturday we all stayed busy playing a game of Monopoly and spending time outdoors.
We would like to thank the Miller House for the donations of soda, candy, and fireworks.
