New Haven Senior Center News
By Harold Ray
Are you wishing for fall yet? This has been one hot summer! One good thing about the heat and the rain is that my tomatoes are growing like crazy. I should have plenty to give away in a few days.
We had Vernon Kohlbusch with us Thursday and enjoyed his music. He always has a variety of songs and is very entertaining. Dianne Whelan will be sharing some of her music with us on Tuesday, July 27, and on Thursday, July 29, Tom and Carol Kuhlmann will display their musical talents.
Jerry Diel will start the month of August on the 3rd with his one-man band and Frances Brooks will star at the piano on the 5th. We are looking forward to hearing Garrett Hasty display his musical skill on the piano on the 10th. I am back for an encore performance on the 12th and my friend, Richard Biring, will return on the 17th to entertain with his singing and guitar playing. Don’t forget the Birthday Party on the 19th for all those having August birthdays.
They say a woman’s work is never done. Well, if the men had to switch jobs for awhile, they would understand that statement. I realize in the New Haven area, many men have full time jobs and have farms to deal with so this doesn’t apply to them necessarily, but "city folk" don’t think about all the woman does at home. Since my wife has been sick, I do the dog walking, house cleaning, cooking, yard work and I hardly have time to take a nap in the afternoon before it is time to start supper. Of course, she does the laundry, baking and putting up fruit in the freezer. I told her she is the chef and I am just the cook. She tells me what to do and I say "Yes Ma’am."
Our Thought for the Day is: "The best sermons are lived, not preached." Remember our Senior Citizens who are sick and/or in the Care Center. They would like to hear from you. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the Assumption Church Center. If you need a ride, call 237-2322; or for information, 237-4009.
