Kim English Named To The USBWA All-District Team
Missouri sophomore guard Kim English added to his growing list of awards on Tuesday, as he was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District VI team. English is the third Tiger named to the team over the past two seasons, joining DeMarre Carroll and Leo Lyons who were named All-District in 2009.
The USBWA All-District VI covers the states of Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Oklahoma State's James Anderson was named the District Player of the Year, while Kansas State's Frank Martin was named Coach of the Year. Other All-District VI Team members include Cole Aldrich (Kansas), James Anderson (Oklahoma State), Craig Brackins (Iowa State), Denis Clemente (Kansas State), Sherron Collins (Kansas), Jordan Eglseder (Northern Iowa), Xavier Henry (Kansas), Adam Koch (Northern Iowa) and Jacob Pullen (Kansas State).
English leads Missouri in scoring this season at 14.1 points per game. The Baltimore, Md., native is also Missouri's top rebounding guard (3.5) and is second on the club with 61 three-point field goals. The 6-foot-6 guard has been the team's steadiest offensive presence, reaching double figures 20 times in 31 contests, including a team-best nine 20-point games. English scored a season high 26 points against Chattanooga and 24 vs. Illinois in the Tiger victory in St. Louis. He also dropped in 20+ in Big 12 road wins at Texas Tech (20) and Colorado (21) and scored 20 in the home triumph over Oklahoma State.
English was named Third Team All-Big 12 earlier this week, becoming just the fourth Tiger sophomore named to the top three squads in school history, joining the likes of Kareem Rush (2001), Keyon Dooling (2000) and Clarence Gilbert (2000).
Missouri returns to action in the opening round of the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday vs. Nebraska. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.
