Lamke, Proposition C Among Election's Big Winners

For Prop C, the total votes in favor equaled 2,418, while those against were significantly behind with only 700 votes, a percentage difference of 77.55% to 22.45%

Proposition C, the measure that allows Missouri residents to opt out of the clause in the recently-passed federal Affordable Care Act that requires US citizens to have health insurance, all districts in Gasconade County were in favor of the statute, with a wide margin of votes to boot. 

The total votes in favor equaled 2,418, while those against were significantly behind with only 700 votes, a percentage difference of 77.55% to 22.45%. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported today that Prop C passed by a 3-1 ratio statewide. 

Letter to the Editor, Vote YES for Proposition C

In regards to the letter to the editor by Dan McKinney, dated July 23, 2010, he states that Missouri hospitals would lose money over the next ten years if Proposition C passes.  He is probably correct.

When we were at the Health Care hearings in Jefferson City earlier this year, I believe the only person there to testify against Prop C was from the Missouri Hospital Association.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Concludes Operation On Hwy. 100

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced the results of a recent procedure termed Operation P.R.O.T.E.C.T. that took place on Hwy. 100 East, outside of Washington, MO.

For eight hours on Wednesday, July 7, officers strictly enforced traffic guidelines throughout several construction areas on the highway. By the end of the operation, after 114 vehicles had been detained, 96 summons and 102 warnings had been given out by the 10 deputies on duty. 

A breakdown: 

--42 speeding violations

--11 without proof of insurance

State Treasurer Clint Zweifel  announces a record $35 million in unclaimed property has been returned to a record 92,000 account holders in fiscal year 2010.

“We have put $35 million back into the pockets of Missourians at a critical time,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “We do this free of charge and faster than ever before because we know that an average return of $365 can help pay for home repairs, groceries, school supplies or filling up the tank.”

Postal Service Recommends Two-Cent Rate Increase

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new Forever Stamp image will be available as part of a pricing package that would add less than 13 cents a month to the average American household’s budget.

The U.S. Postal Service Governors recommended increasing the price of a First-Class stamp 2 cents to 46 cents and authorized the production of a pane of four evergreen tree branches as the newest image for Forever Stamps. The price of a postcard would increase 2 cents to 30 cents.

Employers Sought to Benefit From Missouri Summer Jobs Program

A federal grant is enabling the state of Missouri to provide paid internships and work experiences for young people between the ages of 14 and 24. The state is now seeking employers to sign up for the initiative, which is known as the Missouri Summer Jobs Program. The state will pay wages and workers’ compensation.

More than 320 professional career counselors and business liaisons will be on hand to provide personal support to the workers.

Unemployed Youth Could Benefit from Missouri Summer Jobs Program

Governor Jay Nixon announced the continuation of a jobs program that had success in 2009. Young people between the ages of 14 and 24 may be eligible to participate in this year’s Missouri Summer Jobs Program. Last year the program helped more than 7,000 Missouri youth develop career skills.

The program provides on-the-job training, paid internships and work experience with employers across the state. It is a great way to earn cash and prepare for careers. Also provided is ongoing support from professional career counselors in your area.
