The Franklin County Commission met at the Government Center on Tuesday, July 27 at 10 a.m. The meeting was called to order by County Commissioner Ed Hillhouse. Present were Presiding Commissioner Ed Hillhouse, First District Commissioner Terry Wilson and Second District Commissioner Ann Schroeder.

The Gasconade County Commission met with Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost,
Northern District Commissioner Matthew Penning, Southern District Commissioner Jerry
Lairmore present at Drake with road dept.  Items discussed included:  working on Van
Horn road; work on Lahmeyer project has started; 10000 ton of chat is scheduled to be
crushed at Brinkmann Quarry and Commission agreed to go ahead; general road
maintenance; new grader has arrived at dealership; buyback grader needs specific

Commission Considers Potential Decrease In Road Meetings

The three commissioners began a discussion concerning a potential change in the frequency of meetings with the Gasconade Road Department.

Numerous issues under recent debate within the Gasconade County Commission have stemmed from road and tire-related questions. On the morning of July 22, the three commissioners began a larger discussion concerning the Road Department -- a potential change in the frequency of meetings between the two groups. 

Currently, the commissioners convene at Drake, MO, each Thursday at 7 a.m., immediately before continuing to the official Commission Session at 8:30 a.m. The meetings are considered public, but no official minutes are taken.

Hall of Honor Committee Meets to Gear Up for October Open House

The group is gearing up for an Open House to be held at the historic courthouse in Union in October 2010.

The Franklin County Hall of Honor Committee met Wednesday evening, July 21, at the Government Center in Union. The group is gearing up for an Open House to be held at the historic courthouse in Union in October 2010.

They are seeking military records of everyone who has served in any branch of the service as long as they were discharged honorably.

They are in need of uniforms and maniquins for the new Hall of Honor Museum that will be housed in the historic courthouse.

Barrett Materials Denied Request to Operate Rock Quarry

At the Tuesday evening meeting of the Franklin County Planning and Zoning, which was held in Commission Chambers in Union, Planning and Zoning denied a request for Barrett Materials to operate a rock quarry on YY south of New Haven.

They had requested a Special Use Permit to quarry 100 of 167 acres, using 64 acres as a buffer zone, which would have been a 250-foot border of greenspace.

The Franklin County Commission met in Council Chambers on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. Presiding Commissioner Ed Hillhouse called the meeting to order. Present were Presiding Commissioner Ed Hillhouse, Second District Commissioner Ann Schroeder, First District Commissioner Terry Wilson, County Counselor Mark Vincent, County Auditor Ralph Sudholt, Tammy Vemmer, County Clerk Debbie Door, Health Department Director Conn Roden, Public Works Director Rich Wilson, Deputy County Clerk Diane Geisert and the media.

Gasconade Commission Discusses Possible Drug Testing Policy

The increase under consideration would make a drug and alcohol test mandatory for any Road Department employee involved in an accident.

After a mention to the Gasconade County Commission regarding insurance policies, an overhaul of drug testing within the Road Department was discussed, with a possible expansion in the works for the following week. 

County Clerk Lesa Lietzow brought the issue up, saying that a more definitive answer should be decided upon and provided to the officials at Colonial, Gasconade County's current insurers.

The Gasconade County Commission met with Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost,  Northern District Commissioner Matthew Penning, Southern District Commissioner Jerry Lairmore present at Drake with road dept.  Items discussed included:  Lahmeyer road project starts next week; Van Horn culvert finished next week and then 10 culverts will be replaced on Sandplant road; Liske road needs to be ditched; some improvements need to be made on grader before buyback can be completed.

Franklin County Contracts for Traffic Study

The Franklin County Commission entered into a Memorandum of Understanding on July 13 related to the county’s participation in a federally-funded traffic study program.

The county wants the accurate and timely traffic studies done to determine effective countermeasures for concerns along priority safety improvement routes within the county but has neither the funds nor the engineering expertise needed to conduct such an expert engineering study on its own.
