Mediacom Rep Attends Hermann Aldermen Meeting, Issues Remain Unresolved

Despite the presence of a representative from the City of Hermann's cable provider, questions as to the company's quality remain unanswered.

After complaints were brought up two weeks ago at the July 26 Board of Aldermen meeting, Mediacom Cable company sent a representative to last night's session. However, a decision on whether or not the City of Hermann will renew its contract with the provider is still forthcoming, due to continued dissatisfaction from officials.

"Our bills keep going up, and the quality of service and programming keeps going down," Alderman Ron Van Booven told HermannNews.

Miskel Orders Recount In Presiding Commissioner Election

The current standing results of the August primary are 50.29 % in favor of Jost, and 49.71% for Miskel.

After an incredibly close race for the Republican Presiding Commissioner nomination resulted in a loss, Hermann Mayor Larry Miskel has elected to legally ask for a vote recount in his race against incumbent Ron Jost. 

The lawsuit was filed to the 20th District Circuit Court by Miskel's attorney, P. Dennis Barks Monday, August 9, and will be overseen by Judge Cynthia Eckelkamp. 

New Haven Opts Out of Plan to Allow County to Collect Taxes

Over the past couple of months, the New Haven Board of Aldermen has been discussing the possibility of turning the collection of real estate and personal taxes over to Franklin County, but decided Monday night, Aug. 10, not to do so.

City Administrator Steve Roth said to do so would have meant a decrease in revenue. Roth had talked to Presiding Commissioner Ed Hillhouse, hoping to get a better deal since New Haven is a smaller city and would be paying more, proportionately.

New Haven Park Board to Compensate Roth and Trentmann

New Haven City Administrator Steve Roth and City Clerk Kathleen Trentmann have always provided administrative support to the park board without additional reimbursement even though the extra work is not specified in their duties for the city. Roth estimates he spends one-and-a-half hours per week on Park Board work and Kathleen spends about two hours a week.

New Haven to Cut Back on Plans to Chip and Seal Streets

The chip and seal schedule for New Haven streets had to be revised to stay within the City’s budget. The situation was discussed at length at the Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 meeting of the Board of Aldermen.

July Report from the New Haven Park Board

The New Haven Park Board met July 8, 2010. Board members present included Amber Wilson, Pam Schroeder, Jan Monzyk, Eric Overschmidt, Larry Hanks, Mary VonBehren, Erica Horne and Jason Addison. Also present were Steve Roth, Kirby Menke, Melissa Venardos and Ruth Tritch.

It was reported that swimming pool attendance is down and lessons are down. The expanded concessions make up for the loss. They have had issues with keeping the chlorine level down.

Special Meeting in Gerald to Address Industrial Drive and Street Work

The City of Gerald has called a special meeting of the board of aldermen to be held on Thursday, August 5, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Held at the Gerald City Hall, the meeting will specifically address the Industrial Drive Project and street work. A chance will be given for anyone wishing to bring up any new business.

GASCONADE COUNTY:

• Lesa Lietzow (R), is running for re-election as County Clerk, and has been in the office for seven years. Before attaining that position, she served as Deputy Clerk for 20 years. It is this experience that she lists as her main qualification.
