More than a hundred healthcare workers at Hermann Area District Hospital are taking charge of their personal health through a year-long Workplace of Wellness program designed to help employees achieve their fitness goals.

Hospital exercise physiologist Stevyn Guinnip, MSEd. oversees the program, which started at the end of January.  On a quarterly basis, she evaluates employees in areas such as body fat, body mass index or body weight, waist girth, blood pressure, and other health risk factors

Missouri Looks To Strengthen Requirements For Student Athletes

High school student athletes in Missouri may have to pay a visit to a specialist if they receive a concussion during a game or practice if a current Missouri House bill passes. House Bill No. 1548, known as the “High School Sports Brain Injury Prevention Act”, would not allow a student athlete to return to competition until they had been evaluated and given written clearance by a 'licensed health care provider trained in the evaluation and management of concussions.'

Health Fair Well-Attended, Hospital Says

Saturday's Heart Healthy Fair deemed a success by Hermann Area District Hospital

Organizers of the first ever Heart Healthy Fair at Hermann Area District Hospital this past Saturday say the event was a success, with about 50 participants or blood draws, according to hospital spokesperson Keva Limberg.

“We are very pleased,” she said on Saturday. “If they learned something here today that they didn’t know before that might prevent them from having a heart attack, then we’re doing our job.”

Annual Red Heart Walk is February 19

On Friday, February 19, the Hermann Area District Hospital and Hermann Fitness Source will be hosting and sponsoring the Third Annual Red Heart Walk from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The half mile walk will wind through sidewalks in downtown Hermann with heart shaped signs and healthy messages along the way.
