Lamke, Proposition C Among Election's Big Winners

For Prop C, the total votes in favor equaled 2,418, while those against were significantly behind with only 700 votes, a percentage difference of 77.55% to 22.45%

Proposition C, the measure that allows Missouri residents to opt out of the clause in the recently-passed federal Affordable Care Act that requires US citizens to have health insurance, all districts in Gasconade County were in favor of the statute, with a wide margin of votes to boot. 

The total votes in favor equaled 2,418, while those against were significantly behind with only 700 votes, a percentage difference of 77.55% to 22.45%. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported today that Prop C passed by a 3-1 ratio statewide. 

Griesheimer, Nieves, Schatz are Winners in Republican Primary

The big news in the Republican Primary is that Griesheimer, Nieves and Schatz are winners.

Griesheimer won the Presiding Commissioner seat with an overwhelming majority. He had 8366 votes to Ron Keeven’s 5440 and Jerry Landing’s 2679. In November, Griesheimer will run against Gary W. Getman, Democrat.

Ron Jost Retains Republican Presiding Commissioner Seat With 16-Vote Spread

UPDATED WED. MORNING--Current Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost will maintain his seat, after winning by a 16 vote margin.

A mere 16 votes decided one of the most noteworthy primary elections in Gasconade County, with incumbent Ron Jost narrowly defeating challenger Larry Miskel for the office of Presiding Commissioner.

Jost claimed 1402 votes, with Miskel coming in at 1386. This placed the race's percent spread at an incredibly close margin of 50.29% for Jost, 49.71% for Miskel.

Several weeks ago, Hermann, New Haven and Owensville News Online sent profile questionnaires to those running in today's primary elections. Here are the answers from those who responded:

GASCONADE COUNTY:

• Lesa Lietzow (R), is running for re-election as County Clerk, and has been in the office for seven years. Before attaining that position, she served as Deputy Clerk for 20 years. It is this experience that she lists as her main qualification.

Despite political ads that have been flooding mailboxes, radio and television, Franklin County Clerk Debbie Door has predicted a voter turnout of 20 to 25 percent for the Primary election today.

With the temperature forecast to hit the 100 degree mark today, that might affect election turnout. We hope voters will get out and vote despite the heat.

With political fervor running high in many circles, it is hard to believe the turnout will be so low, but the polls will tell the story.

Missouri Tea Party Groups Have NOT Endorsed Roy Blunt for U.S. Senate

July 28, 2010 -- The following list of Tea Party organizations, from across the state of Missouri, have NOT endorsed Roy Blunt in his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat. When we received a notification that Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a strong supporter of Tea Parties nationally, and the originator of a “Tea Party Caucus” in Washington last week, will be coming to Missouri on July 31st to make phone calls with Roy Blunt from the St. Louis GOP headquarters, and to be a featured speaker at a Blunt fundraiser that night, we were shocked.

Farm Bureau Sponsors Candidate Forum in Owensville

A number of county and state candidates participated Tuesday in the Farm Bureau's candidate forum with Ron Hardecke moderating.

The VFW Hall in Owensville was the scene of a candidate forum on Tuesday night, July 20. Held just two weeks before the primary election, it was sponsored by the Gasconade County Farm Bureau. It was moderated by veteran political rally host Ron Hardecke, a Farm Bureau board member.

Attendance was down slightly from previous forums, some spectators observed. There were several empty tables. Refreshments were provided.

Candidate Forum to Be Held In Owensville

The Gasconade County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a candidate forum in the VFW Hall on Highway 28 in Owensville. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Franklin County Patriots Hosted First of Two Candidate Forums

One of the 26th state senate district contenders told the crowd they were almost sure to get a Republican senator. Their job at the forum was to help explain to voters why it matters which Republican gets the nod.

The Franklin County Patriots held their first Candidate Forum on Tuesday, July 13, at the Franklin County Baptist Association building at Union. An invitation had been extended to candidates for state representative and senator for area districts. The moderator for this forum was Franklin County Patriots Leader Rev. Thomas Smith.

Local Candidate Forums to Be Held in Union Before Primary

The Franklin County Patriots are hosting two forums for local candidates in July. The forums will take place at the Franklin County Baptist Association building located at 785 Butterfield Drive off of Highway 47 at the southern edge of Union.

For the first forum, for 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 13, candidates vying for state representative in the 98th, 109th and 111th districts, state senator for the 26th district and state auditor are invited to meet the public and share their views.
