East Central College Athletic Department Wins Conference Academic Award

The athletic teams at East Central College completed a spectacular year in the classroom in 2009-2010.  Top honors for student athlete academic achievements were recognized on a number of levels.

Mizzou Fan Day Set for August 8

The Mizzou Athletic Department has announced that the Eighth Annual Football Fan Day will be held Sunday, Aug. 8 at Faurot Field. Gates will open at 4 p.m. and the team will be on the field until 5:30 p.m. Admission is free for the event.

Missouri senior center Tim Barnes and sophomore defensive end Aldon Smith have been named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, as announced on Thursday by the league office. The team was voted on by media representatives who cover the conference.

Mizzou-Illinois Tickets On Sale Friday

In just 44 days the Mizzou football team will open up the 2010 season with the State Farm Arch Rivalry game. A limited number of tickets to the Missouri-Illinois matchup will be available for purchase starting Friday, July 23. The Tigers and Illini will meet at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis on Sept. 4, with kickoff set for 11:30 a.m.

The Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team has received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 season, as announced by the association. The Bears are one of a program-record 450 teams to be recognized for their academic excellence.
 

Drury Women's Golf Finishes Second Nationally - At All NCAA Levels - In Team GPA

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The Drury University women's golf team has been honored as a recipient of the 2009-10 National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team GPA Award after finishing second nationally in team grade point average over all NCAA levels.

Coach Lisa Tinkler's Panthers finished with a 3.716 gpa (on a 4.0 scale) for the 2009-10 academic year, trailing only fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference member Indianapolis (3.752). Also in the Top 25 was NCAA Division I Missouri State from Springfield, finishing eighth at 3.636.

New Drury softball coach Chantiel Wilson has announced the Panthers will hold an open tryout for walk-ons for the 2010-11 squad on Saturday, July 31 at Thompson Field.

The tryout will begin at 2 p.m., and is open to all high school graduates - and junior college graduates who have completed their eligibility there - who bring proof of a physical examination within the past six months.

The Saint Louis University men's basketball team will take on defending national champion Duke University during the 2010-11 season. The Billikens will travel to Durham, N.C., to face the Blue Devils Saturday, Dec. 11, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Blaine Gabbert Named to Manning Award Watch List

Tiger QB Led Mizzou to Eight Wins as First-Year Starter in 2009

COLUMBIA -  Another day, another major national award that University of Missouri junior QB Blaine Gabbert is now up for. One day after being named to the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List, Gabbert has also been named a candidate for the Manning Award, which goes annually to the nation's top collegiate quarterback.
