Franklin County Veterans Hall of Honor Committee Seeks Information

Franklin County Commissioner Terry Wilson continues in his search for information on Civil War soldiers and events.

They have posted Union and Confederate soldiers’ records on the Web site franklinmo.org. The information is located under the tab on the left, labeled “Veterans Hall of Honor”.

The Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (often referred to as MOLLUS) was a Civil War veterans organization founded in Philadelphia at the close of the war. The Missouri department of the Loyal Legion, known as the Commandery of the State of Missouri, was instituted in 1885. The members (or “companions” as they were known) of the Loyal Legion were commissioned officers and honorably discharged commissioned officers of the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps, who served in the Civil War.

New Haven Legion to Sell Fried Chicken at Seitter's Saturday

The New Haven American Legion Post will be frying chicken on Saturday, June 25, and selling it at Seitter's Market as a fundraiser for the Legion and Auxiliary.

The chicken will be available starting at 11:00 a.m. For $6.50, you get a plate with two pieces of chicken, potato salad and slaw. Or, you can get four pieces of chicken with sides fof $8.00.

The sale will continue until they run out of chicken.

Darin Fuchs of Owensville Served in Desert Storm and Iraq

A native of Owensville, Darin is the son of Donald F. and Glenda Bledsoe Fuchs

Sergeant First Class Darin Fuchs served in Operation Desert Storm and spent two years in Iraq, in 2004 and 2009. After 21 years in the Army Reserves and three deployments, he retired in February of this year.

A native of Owensville, Darin is the son of Donald F. and Glenda Bledsoe Fuchs. He recently moved back to Owensville from Kansas City with his wife, Becky Morris Fuchs, and their two children, Connor, 11, and Jason, 6. Becky is a native of Raytown. See separate story on Donald on this Web site.

Hermann Florist honors veterans with window display

Hermann Florist's Crystal Binkholder wanted to do something special with the business' window display to pay tribute to those who served the country in the armed forces. And, it just so happened, she knew plenty of people who could help out by supplying uniforms.

MoDOT will honor veterans along highways today

JEFFERSON CITY – In honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, the electronic message boards along state interstates will carry messages recognizing those who have served our country in the armed forces.

The signs, located throughout the state on Interstates 70, 44, 55, 29 and 35 and on U.S. Route 60, will include a message that says, “Missouri Supports Our Veterans – Drive Safely.”

Officials to unveil Veterans Memorial Highway sign for Route 100 near Washington

WASHINGTON – State officials are pleased to unveil the Veterans Memorial Highway sign for Route 100 between Interstate 44 and Route 47 near Washington at a dedication ceremony on Thursday, November 12. The ceremony will begin promptly at noon and will take place near eastbound Route 100 at the JCPenney’s parking lot, where parking will be available. The media and the public are invited to attend.
