Bethany U.C.C. to Hold Annual Picnic Friday, Aug. 13

Bethany United Church of Christ will be holding their annual picnic on August 13, starting at 5 p.m.

They will have hamburgers, fish sandwiches, homemade pie and ice cream. There will be a cake walk and games for the kids such as fishpond and others. They also plan to have a stand for fancywork, baked goods and garden produce. Music is being arranged for but details are not available at this time. People are asked to bring lawn chairs if possible.

Brush And Palette Club Prepares For Ice Cream Social/Dance

Running from 2 to 6 p.m., the organization will host a wide array of ice cream fixings, as has become tradition

The Hermann Brush & Palette Club will continue its mission to keep the recently-refurbished Rotunda building bustling with its Fifth Annual Ice Cream Social and Dance this Sunday, August 15. 

Running from 2 to 6 p.m., the organization will host a wide array of ice cream fixings, as has become tradition. This year, however, Brush & Palette have chosen to host live music (provided by the Korman family) and dancing alongside the summertime treats.

Police Chief Hahn Reports on Washington Town & Country Fair

The 2010 Washington Town & Country Fair was a large success as far as safety and security is concerned, according to Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn. “This year’s Fair was tremendous as far as security is concerned,” stated Chief Hahn. “The weather was good for three of the five days, which helps, and we also have gotten our operations down to where we only need minimal tweaks each year. Crowds were large but well behaved overall. Altogether it was a very successful Fair,” advised Chief Hahn.

Humane Society to Hold Wine Whiskers and Wags’ Auction

The Franklin County Humane Society (FCHS) in Union will be holding its annual ‘Wine, Whiskers and Wags' Auction plus hors d’oeuvre and wine-tasting fundraising event on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 6:00 p.m. until 9 p.m. Due to the economy, the fundraiser is critical to the FCHS shelter’s ability to remain open to receive animals from our area.

Eureka Days to be September 9-10

The City of Eureka will present Eureka Days 2010 on Sept. 9-10. This year's event will include everything from carnival rides, to a beer garden with live music. The event will include a parade, car show/cruise, cornhole tournament, 5K Run, kids korner, nearly 100 vendors and more. Friday night will end with a high energy show by Smash Band, while Saturday will spotlight Well Hungarians and a spectacular fireworks display. Missouri Pork Association Grows Great Memories at 2010 Missouri State Fair

The Missouri Pork Association will once again be greatly involved at the 2010 Missouri State Fair, to be held August 12 through August 22, 2010. Fairgoers will have many opportunities to learn about the pork industry while enjoying the fun and great food in Sedalia.     

Upcoming Trivia Night Helps Raise Funds for Spay / Neuter Clinic in Bland

The Belle Community Center on Highway 28 in Belle is the site of a Trivia Night to be held on Saturday, August 7 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the group, Protect Every Pet (PEP), which is opening a spaying and neutering clinic. It is the group’s first trivia night and they hope to have as many people participate as possible.

The cost for joining in the games is $12 per person or $80.00 for a table of eight. Gamers need not be on a team to participate. Call (573) 646-3833 to reserve a table.

Hermann-based Cancer Assistance Network Sponsors Aug. 7 Branson Concert

Saturday's concert will feature Mickey Gilley, performing in his own Mickey Gilley Theater

A charity founded in Hermann will find itself in Branson, MO this weekend with the staging of a benefit concert on Saturday, August 8 at 8 p.m. The Cancer Assistance Network (or CAN) will attempt to raise funds with the event, titled "The Greatest Concert I Never Attended."

CAN was founded by Ken Molvoid after his wife, Cynthia Ann Molvoid, succumbed to cancer in 2003. The Network attempts to provide funding for families affected by the disease, for everything from housing assistance to food and gas. 

St. Patrick’s Rock Church to Hold Annual Picnic

This year the big picnic will be held August 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Rock Church is located at Hwy. NN and Rock Church Road, Catawissa area, in eastern Franklin County

The annual picnic at St. Patrick of Armagh (the Rock Church) provides a needed shot in the arm for the Preservation Society, spearheaded by Billy Murphy and Bob Conley. A crew of about 100 workers get involved year after year, preparing about 700 family-style fried chicken and beef dinners, drawing people from other states. Money from this event is used to keep this historic church in good condition.
