ECC Announces Spring Dean’s List

East Central College has announced the Dean’s List for the 2010 spring semester. The Dean’s List recognizes those ECC students who have shown high academic performance during the past semester.  A total of 299 students were named to the Dean's List for the 2010 Spring Semester. The following students earned grade point averages of 3.50 to 3.84 with at least 12 semester hours completed during the Spring Semester.

JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri forests grew three times faster than the rate of harvest over the past 30 years. However, that great news disguises a less encouraging fact.

Much of the Show-Me State's forest is in the same condition a garden would be if you simply threw seeds on the ground in the spring and came back in the fall hoping to harvest crops.

It took a published report from a group of scientists at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom to inform farmers of something they already knew – attitudes toward dairy cows influence milk production.  Researchers said cows given names and touched regularly produced about 500 pints more milk than cows not receiving names or the personal touch.  Carnation developed their slogan “milk from contented cows” in 1907 – the personal touch premise is nothing new.

Farm Bureau urges tax commission not to increase agricultural taxes

 In testimony before the Missouri State Tax Commission, Missouri Farm Bureau Vice President Blake Hurst made a strong case as to why property taxes on agricultural land should not be increased by the Commission.  Hurst and his wife, Julie, own a family farming operation near Westboro in Northwest Missouri.
