Schnucks Now Selling Milder Sweet Onion

It's available at Schnucks stores in St. Louis and Washington

A U.S.-grown onion described as having a mild, sweet flavor with “less bite,” is now for sale at Schnucks stores in the St. Louis area, including the store in Washington.

This inaugural crop of EverMild onions expands cooking options because they are mild enough to use raw in salads and salsas, or sliced for sandwiches, according to Michael O’Brien, vice president of produce and floral for Schnuck Markets.

An upcoming U.S. Supreme Court ruling could allow farmers everywhere to once again plant a variety of alfalfa seed  - which has so far been deemed illegal by a California court.

Monsanto Company had produced a genetically engineered alfalfa seed that was marketed under its Roundup Ready product line; this line is resistant to Roundup weed killer. A 2007 District Court ruling overturned the government's initial 2005 approval of the seed.

MU Extension Office to Host Crops Workshop in February

A crops workshop will be offered on February 23 at 6 p.m. in St. Elizabeth by the University of Missouri extension office and regional agronomy specialist Ted Fry. Updated information weed, insect, disease and fertilizer management will be offered along with new crop variety trail data, farm tax guides and other publications.

In Case of Severe Weather, Here's Help

JEFFERSON CITY, MO. - - Seasonal severe weather events such as heavy snow, freezing rain, sleet and high wind conditions are frequently disruptive for many Missouri households.  Disruptive impacts may include loss of household power and even property damage.

In addition to disrupting households, such severe weather occurrences also prove disruptive to businesses.  Loss of power and property damage to local Missouri Farm Bureau offices could result in additional problems for customers wanting to file claims. 

Farmers Speak Out Against Additional Taxes

Farmers across the state of Missouri continue to let lawmakers know how they feel about the possibility of additional taxes on their land. This week, in testimony before the Missouri House of Representatives Committee on Emerging Issues in Animal Agriculture, Missouri Farm Bureau encouraged lawmakers to reject the State Tax Commission’s increase on farmland property.
