Time For Pie is a decidedly mismatched eatery. There are at least five different styles of chair and table scattered around the space. Bookshelves full of worn book copies and board games. A piano where the G under middle C is horribly out of tune.

It looks like a textbook local haunt--well-loved and thoroughly broken-in. The result of many years.

But Time For Pie has actually just celebrated its third birthday, after being founded on Maifest weekend in 2007. The celebration plans?

New Haven’s El Ranchito to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Saturday

Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for May 5 and, according to Wikapedia, is a voluntarily-observed holiday that commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces in 1862. It is a common misconception that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day. It is celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla and in the United States, where it is basically a celebration of Mexican heritage.

St. John’s Lutheran at Beaufort to Hold Chicken Dinner

St. John's Lutheran Church at Beaufort will hold their 113th Annual Chicken Dinner on Sunday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first one was held in 1898.

The cost is $9 for adults aged 13 and older, or $5 for 6 to 12-year-olds, with five-year-olds and under eating for free. For this you get fried chicken, roast beef, real mashed potatoes, vegetables, iced tea, and coffee. The ladies of the church also serve up home-made pies and cakes of every description. Carry-outs are available.

El Ranchito To Serve Cinco De Mayo Specials

In honor of the Cinco De Mayo holiday this Wednesday, Hermann-based Mexican
eatery El Ranchito has announced several specials for its customers. They
include:

$1 tacos
$2 Mexican import beers
$5 margaritas

El Ranchito was opened in 2001 by husband-and-wife team Mike and Blanca
Weir. Blanca, who hails originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, brought
numerous hometown recipes with her. The restaurant frequently hosts dart
tournaments and other community events.

New Haven Fire Department to Hold Chili Dinner

The New Haven – Berger Fire Protection District will host a chili dinner at the New Haven firehouse from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Sunday, March 21.
 
The dinner will consist of hot dogs, chili, and homemade dessert, all for $7. Carry-outs will be available.
 
Proceeds from this not-for-profit chili dinner will be used to record the names of deceased firefighters on a memorial wall in Kingdom City, Mo.
 
The firehouse is located at 103 Dwayne Von Behren Drive in New Haven behind Colony House.

Chili Cook-Off is on

Even though snow canceled many events in the area for Friday night, Saturday's chili cook-off is still scheduled as planned. Sponsored by Calvin's Distributing Company and the Hermann Knights of Columbus, the Super Bowl themed cook off will start at 12 p.m. and go until 8 p.m.

Even though snow canceled many events in the area for Friday night, Saturday's chili cook-off is still scheduled as planned. Sponsored by Calvin's Distributing Company and the Hermann Knights of Columbus, the Super Bowl themed cook off will start at 12 p.m. and go until 8 p.m.

In addition to the cook-off, there will be music, games, gun raffles, contests, prizes and an auction. Proceeds will benefit Knights of Columbus charities, the Hermann Fire Department and the St. George Catholic grade school.

St. George Fish Fry Set For Friday

On Friday, February 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. the Home & School Parent Organization from St. George School will be hosting their annual fish and chicken fry in the St. George Church basement, located at 133 West 4th St. in Hermann.

The all you can eat benefit dinner is $9 for adults, $8 for adults aged 65 or older, $4 for children ages 5-10 and children under four eat for free. All proceeds will go to the St. George School.

Menu items include chicken, catfish, German potato salad, cole slaw, french fries, stewed tomatoes, grilled cheese, desserts and drinks.

Puttin' on the Ritz Fasching Ball scheduled for February

Hermann will be the locale for a "Puttin' on the Ritz" Fasching Ball from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13.

A prize will be awarded for best constume at the '20s and '30s era them dance.

The event costs $25 per ticket and includes an open bar, music, food and dance.
