With the adult obesity rate exceeding 28 percent in Missouri, nutrition experts say a healthy eating plan is more important than ever

Missourians wanting to improve their health should start at ground level – where fruits and vegetables grow.

“Good nutrition begins with the choices we make,” said Margaret Donnelly, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. “Instead of reaching for that bag of potato chips, make a healthy choice by grabbing an apple, orange or some other type of nutritious snack.”

Schnucks Now Selling Milder Sweet Onion

A U.S.-grown onion described as having a mild, sweet flavor with “less bite,” is now for sale at Schnucks stores in the St. Louis area, including the store in Washington.

This inaugural crop of EverMild onions expands cooking options because they are mild enough to use raw in salads and salsas, or sliced for sandwiches, according to Michael O’Brien, vice president of produce and floral for Schnuck Markets.
