Biggers & Callaham, LLC DBA Mice Direct Recalls Frozen Reptile Feed

Biggers & Callaham LLC., D/B/A Mice Direct of Cleveland Georgia is recalling frozen reptile feed (mice, rats, chicks), because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.  Salmonella can affect animals and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products. People handling contaminated pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the product or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Amtrak and the State Fair Help Grow Great Memories

JEFFERSON CITY - How can you grow great memories this summer?  Schedule a trip to the state fair on Amtrak's Missouri River Runner train.  The fair runs Aug. 12-22 in Sedalia.

The Amtrak train runs between St. Louis and Kansas City twice a day with stops in Lee's Summit, Independence, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Jefferson City, Hermann, Washington and Kirkwood.

Franklin County Emergency Planning to Meet at Avantha Plant

The next Franklin County Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at CG Power Systems USA Inc, Washington Missouri at the Avantha Drive plant (Directions to the plant are at the bottom of this email).

Baby Matters Recalls Nap Nanny® Recliners

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Baby Matters LLC, of Berwyn, Pa., is announcing the voluntary recall of 30,000 Nap Nanny® portable baby recliners. CPSC is investigating a report of a 4-month-old girl from Royal Oak, Mich. who died in a Nap Nanny® that was being used in a crib. According to preliminary reports, the infant was in her harness and found hanging over the side of the product, caught between the Nap Nanny® and the crib bumper.

Pedestrian Struck by Car After Parking

Michael D. Billings, 27, of Palmyra, parked his vehicle on Hwy. 50, 1.6 miles west of St. John’s Road and got out of the vehicle. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, he was then struck by a westbound 2008 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Douglas L. Thomas, 39, of Union.

Billings was transported to St. John’s Hospital in Washington by Union Ambulance with minor injuries.

This accident took place at 3:19 p.m. Saturday, July 24. It was investigated by Trooper J. Conrad of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

St. Clair Man Hospitalized Following Rollover

Christopher R. Coleman, 27, of St. Clair, was northbound on Osborn Lane .1 mile north of Barton Road in Franklin County in a 1989 Ford F-150 when, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol, he ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned. This accident took place at 12:21 a.m. Sunday, July 25.

A passenger, Benjamin B. Coleman, 25, was transported to St. Anthony’s Medical Center by St. Clair Ambulance with moderate injuries. According to the report, neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts.

Missouri Sheriff's Group May Need To Police Fundraisers, BBB Warns

A Missouri deputy sheriff’s group that collected more than $800,000 in donations between 2006 and 2009 has partnered recently with two  fundraising companies accused of breaking laws by state and federal authorities.

The BBB suggests that consumers exercise caution before donating to the Missouri Deputy Sheriff’s Association, a nonprofit fraternal group that claims to represent more than 1,100 law enforcement officers in the state.

CPSC Announces Pool and Spa Kids Safety Education Effort

HOUSTON - Halfway through the summer swimming season, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has seen news reports of more than 210 child drowning and non-fatal submersion incidents in pools and spas around the country since Memorial Day Weekend. In an effort to reduce these preventable incidents, CPSC and partners Safe Kids USA and the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) joined forces today to introduce a new kids safety education program.
